Ripoff!

I helped a client a few months ago to set up his speakers and I advised him on broadband. TEST

He called me the other day and I found that he had moved his PC to another room. All was fine but he had had a problem with his sound (he likes to listen to CDs whilst word processing).

Instead of calling me he had gone back to the original PC supplier. They advised him that the onboard sound had failed (correct) and had then sold him a new sound card. Nothing much wrong with that - except that the PC was still under guarantee with them!

I advised him to take it back and get it repaired under guarantee. It needed a new motherboard.

I asked a few more questions and discovered that they had charged him about £1000 for the PC. My opinion was that it was only worth half of that. And as he only wanted to write letters and browse the net he could have managed with a £300 PC from someone like Dell.

The company involved are local to me, and advertise nationally in the PC mags. If you buy from their shop in person they charge MORE than their online/mag advertised prices because they don’t get the additional post and packing charge (they actually told me that!).

I won’t use them. My opinion is that they are unprofessional and have poor customer relations. I wouldn’t use them under any circumstances, even if the moon blotted out the sun.
